West Indies could not progress to the Super 12 stage after 9-wicket loss to Ireland at Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
West Indies posted a below par total of 146/5 which was easily chased down by Ireland with 15 balls to spare.
This is West Indies' worst result in the 15-year-long history of T20 World Cup 2022
Nicholas Pooran-led side suffered shock defeats against Scotland and Ireland to get knocked out of the tournament in Australia.
However, this is not the first time West Indies have lost a T20I to Ireland.
In total, they have lost 3 T20Is out of 8 against Ireland whereas 2 have ended in no result.
West Indies' last loss against Ireland in a T20I was in 2014 under the leadership of Darren Sammy.
“We have disappointed our fans and ourselves. It's definitely hurting. I have disappointed my guys with the way I performed,” Pooran said after the embarrassing loss.
“Pretty emotional finish to the game, but we are just delighted as a group. A lot of things can happen on your day in T20 cricket,” Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie said after the historic win.
