Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney has been arrested in Georgia following allegations of assault. According to police documents cited by TMZ, the 26-year-old is accused of strangling a woman during an altercation on January 14. Reports state that Toney placed his hand around the woman’s throat “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe.”
Authorities detained Toney in early February, with his bail set at $50,000. In addition to the aggravated assault charge, he is also facing a second charge of obstructing a 911 call. TMZ reports that during the alleged incident, Toney attempted to prevent the woman from contacting law enforcement.

If convicted, Toney could face serious legal repercussions. According to the criminal defense firm Grisham, Poole & Carlile, aggravated assault in Georgia carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison. Additionally, legal experts from Lawson & Berry state that obstructing a 911 call could result in a fine of up to $1,000 and/or a jail term of up to one year.
Reports indicate that the alleged victim sustained visible injuries, including red marks on her neck and hemorrhaging in her eyes, as detailed in the police report obtained by TMZ.

Toney, a former standout player for the Florida Gators, entered the NFL when he was selected by the New York Giants in the 2021 NFL Draft. After his time in New York, he joined the Kansas City Chiefs, contributing to their Super Bowl-winning campaign in the 2022 season. Although he was part of the Chiefs' roster for their back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, he only saw action in the first championship game.
Most recently, Toney had a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns before being released by the team in December 2024.
