Highlights:

The injury occurred at the 8-minute mark of the fourth quarter when Mahomes was hit by Browns defenders.

The Chiefs will host the Houston Texans on Saturday, December 21.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is currently listed as week-to-week due to an ankle injury sustained during the Chiefs’ 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Rapoport reported that X-rays on Mahomes' ankle came back negative, though additional testing will be done, with more details expected on Monday.

The injury occurred at the 8-minute mark of the fourth quarter when Mahomes was hit by Browns defenders while attempting an incomplete pass. The quarterback limped off the field with assistance from his teammates and had his right ankle taped on the sideline. Mahomes was later deemed questionable to return, and veteran quarterback Carson Wentz finished the game in Mahomes' place.

Mahomes Gives an Update on His Injury

Mahomes spoke about the incident, explaining, "I was trying to make a play happen. As I threw the ball, I got hit, and I haven't seen it, but it felt like someone hit me from behind as well. I got rolled up on. Kind of happens in football. I tried to bounce back up, but obviously, it hurt a little bit. Now we'll get after the rehab part of it and try to be ready for next week."

Despite the injury, Mahomes was confident he could have re-entered the game if necessary, noting, "It's hard to say right now. Obviously, still adrenaline rolling. Usually, the day after is when you get a good sense of it. I feel like I could have finished the game in different circumstances. But I thought the smart decision was to put Carson in. He's played a lot of football, and he finished the game well."

Andy Reid Confirms Injury Status

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also provided an update on Mahomes' condition, stating, "Patrick, his right ankle has been hurt. It's not broken, but it's sore. He'll get started on the rehab part of it as we go, and then we'll just have to see how he does down the road here."

Mahomes’ Performance Before the Injury

Prior to exiting the game, Mahomes had completed 19 of 38 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Despite playing behind a reshuffled offensive line due to left tackle D.J. Humphries' injury, Mahomes managed to avoid being sacked but took a total of 12 quarterback hits.

Upcoming Schedule for the Chiefs

Kansas City is facing a quick turnaround in the coming weeks. The Chiefs will host the Houston Texans on Saturday, December 21, and then travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers on Christmas Day, December 25. The status of Mahomes' ankle will be closely monitored as these games approach.
