The two-time World Series winner and now a free agent, Charlie Morton, has become a household name in the MLB world with an impressive record of 2047 strikeouts in 2125. 2 innings pitched with 1.307 walks + hits innings pitched. Morton had a decent 2024 season where he appeared in 30 games and earned an innings-pitched stat of 165.1 with 167 strikeouts and a WHIP average of 1.325. In addition, the American pitcher holds the record for most career batters hit by pitch with 180.
With all these records in place, the 41-year-old New Jersey native is a free agent and is looking for a comeback in 2025 sporting a new cap for the right club.
What are the odds for Morton's return
The MLB insider and the New York Post columnist Jon Heyman shared that Morton is a frontline starter, and even at 41 years of age, the right-hander will be making a return if he finds the right club. If that happens Morton's fans would be expecting yet another masterclass from him.
"Favorite Charlie Morton is a frontline starter who'd return at 41 for the right team," Heyman wrote in his Thursday's column
His previous club, the Atlanta Braves, is expected to sign him, as he has spent five out of his 17 MLB seasons with them, including all of his last four seasons from 2021 to 2024. However, as per a report, Morton is looking for a team that has its spring facility nearby, as he will be accompanied by his family as well. Considering the aforementioned conditions, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees, and Braves seem to be the right fit for him.
Jayson Stark of The Athletic has eliminated the option of him pitching for the Braves, as he reported that there is a lack of communication between them, so he is less likely to be seen in their jersey.
With the regular 2025 season scheduled to kick off from March 18, it would be interesting to see which team sides with the baseball icon Charlie Morton or vice versa.
