Stephen A. Smith Fears Cunningham Will Become a Threat for the Knicks
ESPN's Stephen A. Smith expressed concerns on "First Take" about the Knicks' upcoming series, warning that they might continue their regular season struggles, despite his loyalty to the team. He specifically pointed to Cade Cunningham's performance as a potential threat. Stephen A. Smith acknowledges the Knicks' improved talent this season, but he's less confident in the team due to a perceived lack of grit and toughness that was present last season.
"I’m very worried about them,” Smith revealed. “I’m picking them, but I’m worried in this series. This kid, Cade Cunningham, is something special. He averages over 30 against the New York Knicks.”
Smith used the platform to send a clear message to the Knicks' leader, Jalen Brinson. Brunson will garner massive traction as he will he up against Cummingham. Brunson Returned from injury during the final month of the season, but New York will need him to produce at his usual rate.
The series could prove to be definitive for the Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau. Smith believes the team could use Thibs as a scapegoat. Game 1 of the Knicks vs Detroit is scheduled to take place on April 19.
