In a massive development ahead of the Asia Cup, the top brass of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup at the behest of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), sources have confirmed to Sports Tak.
A top source in the know of the development told Sports Tak that the officials in line to travel to the neighbouring nation for the continental tournament are Board President Roger Binny and Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, who have directly been nominated by the BCCI.
The duo will go to Pakistan on September 4, via the Wagah border. This will happen after the India-Pakistan match, which will take place on September 2.
This comes after the widely public feud between the PCB and the BCCI. Pakistan are the official hosts of the tournament, but India will be playing all their matches in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the tournament commences on August 30 in Multan.
Earlier, the PCB backtracked on their initial apprehension about a hybrid model of the Asia Cup. But now, Under the hybrid model, Pakistan will proudly host all the non-India matches, showcasing their cricketing prowess on home soil. However, in a thrilling twist, if India manages to qualify for the final, the summit clash will be held in Sri Lanka. Alternatively, if India falls short, the grand finale will electrify the cricketing landscape in Pakistan.
"The hybrid model will be accepted by ACC in the next meeting. Sri Lanka will be the neutral venue for India matches and the official announcement will be made in a day or two," a source had previously told Sports Tak.
The host for this year's Asia Cup is Pakistan but with the Indian cricket team not travelling to the neighbouring country without the Central government's permission, PCB chairman Najam Sethi had proposed a 'Hybrid Model' where four games are supposed to be hosted in their country.
