Big News: KKR name injured Sri Lankan pacer as England's Gus Atkinson's replacement for IPL 2024

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have named Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera as England’s Gus Atkinson’s replacement for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. 
 

Atkinson was roped in by KKR for his base price of Rs 1 crore in the IPL mini-auction. Chameera’s services have been acquired by the franchise for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. 
 

The Sri Lankan player recently injured his left quadriceps in the first ODI against Afghanistan. He was ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. Sri Lanka are yet to name their squad for the Bangladesh series. It will be interesting to see if Chameera recovers before the tour. 
 

Chameera made his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 2022 edition. He took nine wickets at an average of 42.67 and conceded runs at 8.73 runs per over. He worked with former LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir who is now associated with his former franchise KKR. 

 

Earlier, Chameera was a part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squads in the 2018 and 2021 editions respectively but did not get a game.

 

Chameera's stint with Dubai Capitals 

 

Before getting injured during national duty, Chameera played for Dubai Capitals in the recently concluded ILT20 2024 where they lost to MI Emirates in the final. He took 10 wickets from seven appearances. His best performance of 4 for 28 in the season came against Sharjah Warriors in a losing cause.

 

Chameera's T20 record

 

The 32-year-old pacer has 118 wickets from 119 games including four four-wicket hauls. His economy rate is 7.98 runs per over.
