India batter Virat Kohli enjoys a great friendship with former skipper MS Dhoni and their mutual respect for one another is visible to the cricketing world. Both batters were involved in many partnerships during their career and were known for their ability to frustrate the opposition.

On Thursday, Kohli shared a picture with Dhoni, with the caption sending Twitter in a frenzy. Fans of both the players commented on how they missed seeing the duo in action for Team India.

"Being this man’s trusted deputy was the most enjoyable and exciting period in my career. Our partnerships would always be special to me forever. 7+18," Kohli wrote on Twitter. It is important to note that 7 was Dhoni's jersey number, and Kohli wears the number 18 jersey.

It was under Dhoni's leadership that Kohli became the star that he is today. Both players have, on different occasions, shown mutual respect for each other. When Dhoni announced his international retirement back in 2020, Kohli's posts on his social media for the World Cup-winning captain had gone viral, showing the great camaraderie that the two legendary cricketers share.

Dhoni also groomed Kohli to become a future leader. Although he was made the captain while Dhoni was in the team, there were many instances when Kohli decided to take the opinion of the former India skipper when the going got tough during a game.

The current Chennai Super Kings captain went on to play 350 ODIs, with his highest score being 183 against Sri Lanka. He also remains the only captain to win all major ICC trophies and was referred to as 'Captain Cool' during his career for his calm persona, especially after his innings to lead India to the ICC ODI World Cup in 2011. The wicketkeeper-batter called time on his international career in August 2020.

Meanwhile, Kohli has endured a bad patch with the bat in 2022. He was rested for the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe and he would now be in action in the upcoming Asia Cup, where Team India will square off against Pakistan in their opening fixture on August 28 in Dubai.
