ICC Test Rankings: Joe Root's dominance as no.1 Test batter ends; Travis Head storms into top 5 after Adelaide onslaught, Rishabh Pant slips 3 places

Highlights:

Harry Brook is the no.1 ranked Test batter.

Brook scored two consecutive centuries against New Zealand.

Virat Kohli slipped to 20th place after Adelaide Test.

England's in-form veteran batter Joe Root has been dethroned as no.1 Test batter in International Cricket Council's (ICC) latest rankings. Root who scored his 36th Test century in the previous Test against New Zealand has been replaced by his teammate Harry Brook. The 25-year-old who scored two centuries and one fifty in first two Tests and Kiwis, now holds the top spot with 898 rating points, one more than Root. 

Brook is followed by New Zealand's Kane Williamson and young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The fifth spot is now occupied by Travis Head who jumped six places. Head scored a counter-attacking 140 in pink-ball Test at Adelaide Oval. Sri Lanka's Kamindu Mendis moved up one place to sixth spot whereas South Africa captain Temba Bavuma gained three places and now holds the seventh spot after a stellar run against Sri Lanka on comeback after injury.

New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell and Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant slipped three places each to eighth and ninth respectively. Meanwhile, Steve Smith slipped out of top 10 after falling cheaply yet again.

Marnus Labuschagne who scored a half-century after single-digit scores in Perth Test moved up three places to 13th. Australia opener moved down two places to 14th. The biggest change in top 20 is Virat Kohli slipped to 20th spot. He was placed 14th after the century in Perth but two low scores in Adelaide led to the slip in rankings.

Changes in bowlers' rankings

They were a few changes in top 10 bowler rankings as well. Ravichandran Ashwin slipped to fifth whereas Australia captain Pat Cummins moved to fourth as he was rewarded for the five-wicket haul. Mitchell Starc moved up three places to 11th and Marco Jansen slipped out of top 10 to 12th spot. 

England's Chris Woakes moved up two places to 15th whereas hat-trick hero Gus Atkinson and left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj moved four places up to 17th and 18th places respectively.
