Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened up on the red-soil pitch after India defeated Bangladesh in the first match to take a lead of 1-0 in two Test match series at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings as he got six scalps which helped India to bundle out the visitors on just 234 runs.
Bangladesh batters were seen struggling against Indian bowlers. Apart from skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto's (82 off 127) no other batter managed to score more than 40 runs. While talking about the conditions, Rohit gave credit to bowlers to put their hand up. He also reckoned that the red soil pick has always something to offer.
“No matter what the conditions are, we want to build the team around that (strong bowling). In the last few years, wherever we have played, we have managed to have that in the armoury. You have to give credit to the guys, they want to put their hand up. The red soil pitch always has something to offer. You need to have a little bit of patience as well. This was a pitch where we had to show a lot of patience. We were patient enough with the bat and with the ball as well to put them under pressure" said Rohit in post-match conference.
Rohit also hailed Ravichandran Ashwin who smashed a century in the first innings when India were reeling and picked up six wickets in the second innings. He said that Ashwin is always there for us with both bat and ball.

The second Test match of this two Test match series will be played at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur which is scheduled to start from September 27 where the Men in Blue will feature with the same squad that was in Chennai for the first clash.
