Team India's squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be announced on Saturday, January 18. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the senior selection committee, along with India captain Rohit Sharma will address a press conference in the afternoon to unveil the India's squad for both Champions Trophy and ODI series against England. Notably, the Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan and the UAE. India will also play a three-match ODI series against England before they shift their focus on Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, as per a reliable source privy to the development, Sports Tak has learnt that the selection committee held a virtual meeting with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir to discuss India's squad.
Jasprit Bumrah likely to be picked in India's Champions Trophy squad
Finally the suspense around Jasprit Bumrah's presence in India's Champions Trophy will end tomorrow. However, Sports Tak has learnt that Bumrah is likely to included in India's squad for Champions Trophy. But Bumrah's participation in the tournament is subject to fitness. So to prove his fitness Bumrah will feature in the ODI series against England which is set to get underway from February 6.
During the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, pacer Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back spasm. He felt discomfort on the second day of the Sydney Test and subsequently underwent scans after being forced to leave the field midway through the match. While the BCCI did not publicly disclose the full extent of his injury, Bumrah was unable to bowl during the final two days of the match, which India ultimately lost by six wickets.
Bumrah to feature in ODI series against England
Sources hint that the selectors are keen to observe Bumrah's performance in at least one competitive match before the Champions Trophy to assess his fitness and make a final decision regarding his selection. Which means Bumrah will be seen playing the ODI series against England.
Couple of days back, it was reported that Bumrah has been advised a complete bed rest following his gruesome injury and will be on a long injury layoff. Later, Bumrah himself reacted to those reports and rubbished it completely by calling it fake news.
India's pace spearhead was the player of the series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 32 wickets under his belt. And if India need to go after Champions Trophy title, their most lethal bowler Bumrah's presence in the squad becomes a necessity for them.
