India were not expected to touch 60 medals in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 without shooting and archery, but the contingent proved all their doubters wrong with 61 medals under their belt. The country finished another successful outing at CWG with 22 gold, 15 silver and 23 bronze medals and the contingent will be extremely proud of their performance heading into the closing ceremony of the international multisport event.

There were many athletes who performed to the best of their abilities. But like all good things, the Games must also come to an end after another dominant performance by the country's athletes.

Most impressive for India were the wrestlers, who won a total of 12 medals for the country, but special mentions also go to the weightlifters, with 10 medals, the boxers with seven, and the shuttlers, with six medals under their kitty.

Although India were not able to match their tally of 101 medals in the home CWG in 2010, or their 66 medals from the 2018 edition in Gold Coast, Australia. But there is still a big matter of pride for the side after such commendable performances.

The closing ceremony was held at the same venue as the opening ceremony — at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The Games flag was lowered and handed over Victoria, Australia who are the hosts of the next edition of the CWG in 2026.

The closing ceremony kicked off with a performance from Solihull-based band Ocean Colour Scene. This was followed by a musical performance from the Birmingham-born band Dexys Midnight Runners. One of the biggest bands of all time, UB40 added more to the event, while other musicians and bands from the Midlands region entertained the crowd with their performance.
