The 36-year-old also broke the record for most sixes in international cricket as well. The record was previously held by West Indies' self-proclaimed 'Universe Boss' Chris Gayle. The Caribbean opener has 553 sixes in international cricket from 551 innings. Rohit surpassed Gayle in his 473rd international innings.

Rohit completed his half-century from just 30 balls, the second-fastest in the ongoing World Cup behind Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis. It is the second-fastest half-century for India in World Cups. Tendulkar holds the record with a 26-ball half-century against Bermuda in the 2007 edition of the event.

The opener was dismissed by Rashid Khan in the 26th over of the run chase. He went for a slog-sweep but missed the line as Rashid bowled a googly. He got bowled. He scored 131 runs from 84 balls including 16 fours and five sixes.

After Rohit was dismissed, Virat Kohli took control of the run chase and remained unbeaten for 55. Shreyas Iyer contributed with a cameo as India won the match by eight wickets with 15 overs to spare.

Before the match, Rohit needed 21 runs to reach the milestone. In the first game, he failed to get off the mark and was dismissed lbw by Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on October 8.
