The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has big plans to celebrate India's cricketing legend, Virat Kohli's 35th birthday, which coincided with India's World Cup match against South Africa at Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens on November 5. Originally, they had envisioned an extravagant celebration with fireworks, the distribution of 70,000 Kohli face masks to spectators, and even a grand light and sound show.
However, their elaborate plans were curtailed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC), who raised concerns about potential marketing issues for the World Cup broadcaster and sponsors.
Undeterred by these restrictions, the CAB came up with an alternative plan to mark this special occasion. They decided to honor Virat Kohli with a remarkable gift – a golden bat. This specially crafted golden bat, an embodiment of Kohli's excellence and his remarkable contributions to Indian cricket, will serve as a token of their admiration.
While the initial celebration plans had to be toned down, the cricket fans who were eager to celebrate this momentous occasion can still expect a modest light and sound show at the historic Eden Gardens. The match at the Eden Gardens coincided with Virat Kohli's birthday.
During the eve of the match, former Indian captain and current BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, along with his elder brother and CAB president, Snehasish Ganguly, had an engaging conversation with Dravid. They showcased the newly constructed dressing room and clubhouse at the iconic cricket ground, which received accolades from Dravid. This gathering brought together cricketing stalwarts, making it a fitting tribute to Virat Kohli's enduring legacy in Indian cricket.
Despite the challenges posed by regulatory directives and considerations for sponsors, the CAB found a heartfelt way to mark Virat Kohli's birthday. The golden bat and the modest celebrations at Eden Gardens served as a testament to Kohli's indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to the sport of cricket. This event captured the essence of the profound respect and appreciation that cricket enthusiasts have for the Indian cricketing icon.
