Jasprit Bumrah has become the leading wicket-taker in T20Is for India surpassing leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Bumrah was just two wickets away from taking over Chahal before India’s clash against Scotland at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The yorker speciallist achieved the feat with a yorker to get Mark Watt's wicket in the 18th over of the innings. Now, he has 64 wickets from 54 games while Chahal has 63 wickets from 49 appearances.
Earlier, Bumrah opened his account by getting rid of Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer with a slower delivery directed at stumps. Coetzer was completely deceived by the slower one as he went between the huge bat and pad gap to hit the woodwork.
India’s bowling spearhead was exceptional with the new ball. He conceded just seven runs from his two overs and took the wicket of Coetzer. While he got hit for a six by opener George Munsey in his first over, he followed it up with a wicket-maiden.
Later, he returned in middle overs but did not get a wicket as Callum MacLeod and Chris Greaves were cautious of his yorkers. He was handed the ball again in the 18th over and Watt lost his wicket trying to play a scoop shot. With Bumrah's second wicket of the match, Scotland got bundled out for a score of 85 with 14 balls left in the innings. The 27-year-old conceded just 10 runs in 3.4 overs he bowled.
Bumrah is also India's leading wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup 2021 with five wickets to his name from four games.
The list of most wickets in T20Is is currently headed by Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan who has 117 wickets from 94 games. Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga, New Zealand's Tim Southee and Afghanistan's Rashid Khan are the only three other bowlers who have more than 100 wickets in the format.
