Story Highlights:

India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after four consecutive wins.

India lost the Sydney Test by 6 wickets in the absence of an injured Jasprit Bumrah.

Sunil Gavaskar feels noone pays heed to what he says while commentating.

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was left fuming as India lost the Sydney Test by six wickets and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade. During the course of the five-Test series, the cricketer-turned-commentator suggested several changes. He also explained what the batters need to do on challenging Australian wickets favouring the pacers having faced potent fast-bowling attacks during his playing days. After the defeat in Sydney, Gavaskar left fuming as he felt that noone pays heed to what he says and everything goes over players' heads.

"Arey humko kya maloom cricket ka. Hume cricket aati nahi hai. Hum sirf aise hi television pe baat karte rehte hai. Humari kaun sunega? Irfan (Pathan), hum log aise hi baat karte hai TV ke liye. Actually, humari baat sunne ka koi matlab nahi banta. Abhi bhi jo maine kaha hai, upar se jaane dijiye. Koi problem nahi hai. Idhar se aane dijiye, idhar se bahar nikal dijiye. (What do we know about cricket?  We don't know cricket. We just talk on the television. Who will listen to us. Irfan and I just talk on TV. Actually, there is not point listening to us. Even what I have said just now will go over the head. There is no problem. Let it enter from here and exit from here (gesturing towards his ears)," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

During the same post-match conversation, Irfan Pathan criticised Virat Kohli who has been struggling in the longest format in the last few years. Pathan said that Kohli's first innings average is dismal and the selectors rather give consistent run to a youngster who can also bat with an average of 25-30.

"In the first innings of Tests in 2024, where the match is set by a batter, Virat Kohli averages 15. Kohli's average in the last 5 years is not even 30. Does the Indian team deserve this for their senior player? Instead of this, give a youngster consistent rope, even he will give an average of 25-30. This is about the team, not an individual," Pathan said.
