India's pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah bagged a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the third Test at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground. After the fifer, Bumrah reflected on the changes that he has made in his bowling techniques. The 31-year-old passed a cheeky comment on centurion Joe Root, who turned up for the post-play press conference as well.
This was Bumrah's 15th five-for in Tests. He also smashed the record for most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in Tests in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries which belonged to legendary Kapil Dev. With an excellent bowling display after missing Edgbaston Test, Bumrah etched his name on the Lords' fame of honours board for the first time in his career. This was his second five-wicket haul in the ongoing Test series after the one he took in Headingley, Leeds.
At the post match conference, when the Indian fast bowler was asked about the improvements in his skills he sassily said, "There are few things, but Joe is standing there, so he should not listen to all of these things."
When asked further, he asserted that is always eager to learn and perform in the best way possible.
"I always felt that I have only one career and I should be able to do everything. I wanted to learn everything. That is still my motivation. If I have a lot of different things up my sleeve, then in different conditions I can contribute more and I [will] have answers for every different kind of condition. So all of these things are there. I am still trying to add few more things, but once I am able to get that, then I will be able to explain it a little more," Bumrah added.
Bumrah takes fifer but Jamie-Carse's ressistance keeps England in game
Root was unbeaten at 99 on Day 1 of third Test. On Day 2, England began with 251/4. The veteran England batter completed his 37th Test century surpassing former India captain Rahul Dravid and levelled with Australia's Steve Smith. He was then bowled out by Bumrah at 104. His fifer helped India bowl out the hosts for 387. England's lower order put up a fight after Bumrah's menacing spell with new ball. Jamie Smith and Brydon Carse scored half-centuries to guide England to a challenging first innings total.
