Ireland's Peter Moor has announced his retirement from international cricket. Moor, who played for Zimbabwe and then made his debut for Ireland, has called time on his international career. He belongs to the list of 17 cricketers who have played international cricket for two different countries.
Moor's last international appearance was in a one-off Test against his former team Zimbabwe in February 2025. He registered scores of 4 and 30 in his final Test.
Moor's white-ball career
Born in Harare, Moor made his ODI debut in 2014 against Bangladesh. He made his Test and T20I debut in 2016. He played 49 ODIs and 21 T20Is for Zimbabwe. From 49 ODIs, he scored 827 runs from 45 innings at an average of 20.67, including four half-centuries. From 21 T20Is, he scored 364 runs at an average of 24.26, including an unbeaten 92.
Moor's Test career
He made his Test debut for Ireland in 2023. He played for Ireland as his paternal grandmother was Irish. He played a total of seven Tests for Ireland but could score just one half-century. His 79-run knock against Zimbabwe came in Belfast in July 2024. Earlier, he had five half-centuries from eight Tests for Zimbabwe.
Moor's unfulfilled dream
In 2023, Moor felt that he still has three or four years of cricket left in him. He wanted to represent Ireland in a World Cup event which did not happen.
"I still believe I've got three or four years of good cricket in me at the top level. Even though I might have missed out on a few World Cups for Zimbabwe in the last few years, I hope I can play for Ireland at the next one,' he had said in an interaction with ESPNCricinfo.
Moor becomes part of history
Moor's last professional cricket appearance was on July 10 in Dublin for Muster Reds against North-West Warriors. He contributed with a 16-ball 35 cameo, featuring two fours and three sixes. His side won by 100 runs as captain Curtis Campher scripted history with five wickets from five balls. He is expected to play domestic and franchise T20 cricket going ahead.
