India were bowled out for 387, matching England’s first-innings total on a see-sawing third day of the third Test at Lord’s. The day ended with a flashpoint, as Indian captain Shubman Gill was involved in a heated on-field exchange with England opener Zak Crawley over time-wasting tactics late in the final session.
The incident happened after England began their second innings, with just enough time left in the day to complete two overs before stumps. However, openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett seemed like they were deliberately slowing the game down, prompting Gill to confront Crawley over the perceived gamesmanship. Pacer Mohammed Siraj also joined in the exchange.
England reached two for no loss at stumps after bowling out India for 387 in the visitors' first innings on a seesawing day three of the third Test. At the close of play, Zak Crawley was batting on 2, while Ben Duckett was yet to open his account.
KL Rahul was the standout performer with a composed 100 off 177 balls, becoming just the second Indian to score more than one century at this iconic ground, after Dilip Vengsarkar. Left-handed batters Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja made important contributions as well, scoring 74 and 72, respectively.
Pant was run out by Ben Stokes just before lunch while attempting a risky single, bringing an end to a 141-run partnership with Rahul for the fourth wicket.
India started the day at 145 for three, and after the crucial stand between Rahul and Pant, Jadeja and Nitish Reddy (30) put together 72 runs for the sixth wicket, helping push the total forward.
England, however, struck back late in the day to wrap up India’s innings before stumps.
Rahul’s innings featured elegant strokes, including some eye-catching drives and flicks. One of his finest shots was a crisp backfoot punch through the offside off Brydon Carse. Meanwhile, Pant brought up his half-century in style, smashing a short ball from Ben Stokes for six over deep fine leg.
Brief scores:
England: 387 and 2 for no loss in 1 over
India 1st innings: 387 all out in 119.2 overs (KL Rahul 100, Rishabh Pant 74, Ravindra Jadeja 72; Chris Woakes 3/84).
