Obed McCoy creates history, registers best ever bowling figures against India in T20Is

Another left-hand fast bowler turned out to be India’s Kryptonite again. Obed McCoy registered the best ever bowling figures for West Indies and against India in the format. McCoy’s bowling figures of 6/17 wrecked India’s batting order and helped the hosts restrict India to 138. 
 

Records broken

McCoy broke Keemo Paul’s record of best bowling figures for West Indies. Paul took 5/15 against Bangladesh in 2018. On the other hand, no bowler had taken a fifer against India in T20Is. The previous-best bowling figures against India belonged to Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga took 4/9 in 2021.

 

It is also the fourth-best bowling figures in the format among full-member nations. The record for best bowling figures belongs to Deepak Chahar who took 6/7 against Bangladesh in 2019.
 

McCoy's victims

First, McCoy did the trick with the new ball by getting rid of openers Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the powerplay overs. Later, he returned to bowl in the slog overs and got rid of Ravindra Jadeja and India's designated finisher Dinesh Karthik followed by Ravichandran Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

 

All out after five years 

The last time India got bowled out in the first innings of a T20I match was in 2017. Against West Indies, India got all out with two balls to spare. India got all out against Australia in Guwahati. Coincidentally, another left-arm fast bowler haunted Indian batters in 2017. Jason Behrendorff took four wickets against India.

 

Maiden IPL stint

The 25-year-old took 11 wickets from seven games at an average of 21.55 for Rajasthan Royals (RR). His best bowling figures in Indian Premier League (IPL) was 3/23. was picked for his base price of Rs 75 lakh in IPL 2022 mega auction.
