The upcoming IPL 2024 mini-auction is talk of the town and fans are eagerly anticipating who will be the most lucrative buy or the season's best bargain. Teams are also on the lookout for emerging cricket talents who could become the next big stars.
A total of 333 cricketers will go under the hammer in the IPL 2024 auction which is slated to be held in Dubai on December 19 from 1 PM IST. The list consists 214 Indian players, 119 overseas players, and 2 from associate nations. Among them, 116 are capped players, 215 are uncapped, and two are from associate nations. Teams have a total of 77 slots to fill, with a maximum of 30 slots available for overseas players. The highest reserve price set is INR 2 crore, chosen by 23 players, while 13 players have set their base price at INR 1.5 crore.
The IPL auctions have historically seen some players receive substantial paydays due to intense bidding wars. It's interesting to note the top buys from each IPL auction over the years.
Many renowned players are included on this list, and many are likely aiming to secure high bids for the 2024 IPL season. There's also curiosity about how certain players managed to attract such high bids for their services.
In the list, the record for the highest bid in IPL history was set in the 2023 auction, with Punjab Kings acquiring Sam Curran for an impressive 18.5 crore INR.
Conversely, the list also shows the least expensive top buy as MS Dhoni, who was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for just 1.6 crore INR. This purchase is arguably one of the greatest bargains, considering Dhoni's legendary status as an Indian captain and his long-standing leadership of CSK. He recently led the team to victory in the 2023 IPL and will enter the 2024 season as the defending champions.
