Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians secured their first win of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League after beating Rishabh Pant's Delhi Capitals by 29 runs in match 20 of the IPL 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on April 7 (Sunday). The win was also special for the MI camp as they also created some really big records after their victory against DC.
Mumbai Indians create historic record
The Mumbai-based franchise became the first team in T20 history to win 150 matches (excluding the super over wins). After them is another five-time IPL champion, Chennai Super Kings with 148 wins in T20 cricket. and following them on the third spot is Team India with 144 T20 wins.
They also became the first team with 50 T20 wins at a single venue (including the Super Over wins). Now, Mumbai Indians have 50 wins at the Wankhede Stadium. After them is Kolkata Knight Riders with 48 wins at their home ground in Eden Gardens. At third comes, Chennai Super Kings with 47 wins in Chepauk.
Mumbai win their first match of IPL 2024
Hardik Pandya has won his first match in IPL 2024 as the new MI captain. He would be hoping to add a couple more wins and progress ahead on the points table. For Mumbai, Romario Shepherd turned out to be a hero after he smashed 32 runs in the final over and provided his team with a match-winning push.
He played a knock of 39 runs in just 10 balls and became the hero that MI was looking for in order to end their disappointing losing streak in the tournament. Now Mumbai's next game will be up against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the same venue, on April 11.
