Rohit Sharma missed his half-century by just one run.

Under-pressure Mumbai Indians (MI) batters proved that a player does not need to score a hundred to help his team score a massive total. After Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant put MI to bat first, the hosts posted 234/5 on the board. This is the highest total in T20 cricket history without a player scoring a half-century.

Former MI skipper Rohit Sharma was the top run-scorer in the innings. He was dismissed for a 27-ball 49 by Axar Patel. Two other batters scored in 40s at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Ishan Kishan scored 42 runs from 23 deliveries including four fours and a couple of sixes. The wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed by Patel as well.

Tim David got close to his half-century as well. He remained not out for 45 runs from 21 balls including two fours and four sixes. He would have completed his half-century as well if not from Romario Shepherd's onslaught. The West Indies all-rounder scored 32 runs against Anrich Nortje in the final over to help his side post a gigantic total on the board.

“One went out of the ground and everyone in the stands enjoyed that. Great effort today, we had to stand up after a tough start to the season. Shepherd put the hammer down in that last over. Off pace deliveries didn't feel like bouncing up high,” David said during the innings break.

Records broken or equalled after run-fest in Mumbai

The 32-run over is the highest for MI in IPL history. The previous record belonged to Dewald Brevis and skipper Hardik Pandya. Brevis scored 28 runs against Rahul Chahar, whereas Pandya achieved the feat against Ashok Dinda.

This was MI's third-highest total in the IPL. Also, they joined RCB in the second place with their 24th 200-plus total. CSK are on top with 29 200-plus totals. Mi equalled another RCB record. This was their sixth 200-plus total against DC. RCB have six 200-plus totals against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Nortje ended up conceding 65 runs in his quota of four overs. He equalled Umesh Yadav’s feat of most runs conceded in an innings which he created in 2013.
