IPL 2024, Orange Cap: Travis Head displaces Riyan Parag from 2nd spot after batting heroics against DC, haunts holder Virat Kohli

Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) explosive batter Travis Head has surged into contention for the IPL 2024's's Orange Cap. Head blazed with an incredible 89 off just 32 balls against the Delhi Capitals on April 20, following his century and Player of the Match award in the previous game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Australian has displaced Rajasthan Royals' young talent Riyan Parag from the top spot. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders' all-rounder Sunil Narine has slipped out of the top five rankings. Additionally, Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit Sharma has secured the fourth position with a century to his name. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants' skipper KL Rahul maintains his spot in the top five after his impressive 82 off 53 balls against the Chennai Super Kings on April 19. RCB's superstar batter Virat Kohli continues to lead the orange cap race comfortably. Kohli is expected to retain his position as he gears up to face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21.

Let’s have a look at the list of batters who are in the Orange Cap contention in IPL 2024:

 

1. Virat Kohli (RCB): The Indian batting maestro remains king of the run scorers. Kohli holds the Orange Cap with a dominating 361 runs from just seven matches, boasting a healthy strike rate of 147.34. He's already notched two half-centuries and a well-deserved century.

2. Travis Head (SRH): The Aussie import is proving to be a terror for bowlers. Head has exploded into the top five with a staggering 324 runs from just six matches, maintaining a blistering strike rate of 216.0. Acquired by SRH last year, he's proving his worth with consistent power hitting.

3. Riyan Parag (RR):  Silencing past criticism, the young RR batsman has found his voice with the bat. Parag has amassed 318 runs with a fantastic strike rate of 161.42, including three well-constructed fifties across seven matches.

4. Rohit Sharma (MI): The Indian skipper and former MI leader, Rohit Sharma, rocketed up the leaderboard after his century against CSK on April 14th.  While lacking fifties this season, Rohit has still managed a solid 297 runs in seven matches with an impressive strike rate of 164.08.

5. KL Rahul (LSG): After a slow start with only one fifty, LSG captain KL Rahul has rediscovered his form.  Silencing critics concerned about his strike rate, Rahul slammed a match-winning knock against CSK. He now sits comfortably at 286 runs from seven matches with a strike rate of 143.00.
