The Rajasthan Royals (RR) are poised to face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 13 in Mullanpur. Currently leading the points table, RR has secured four wins from five matches. However, they faced a setback in their last game, losing to the Gujarat Titans (GT). RR’s premier spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is on the brink of setting a historic record in the IPL.
So far this season, Chahal has claimed 10 wickets in five matches. In the upcoming match against PBKS, Chahal needs just three wickets to become the first bowler to reach 200 wickets in IPL history. Currently, he leads all bowlers with 197 wickets from 150 matches.
Yuzvendra Chahal chases history
Chahal clinched the Purple Cap in 2022 during his first season with RR, taking 27 wickets. Although RR finished as runners-up that year and failed to secure their second IPL title.
This season, Chahal is second in the race for the Purple Cap, closely following Jasprit Bumrah. The upcoming match against PBKS presents him with an opportunity to possibly take the lead in this contest.
Yuzvendra Chahal made his IPL debut in 2013 with the Mumbai Indians (MI), before moving to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he played from 2014 to 2021. In the mega auction of 2022, RR acquired him, and he has since become a key member of the team.
