Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is around the corner and fans can't wait to see their favourite cricketers stars taking the centre stage. IPL 2024 is set to start from March 22 where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be up against each other in the opener to set the tone for the seventeenth season of the glitzy league.

But IPL 2024 will be different from other seasons in many ways. From Rishabh Pant's return to MS Dhoni's possible last dance, IPL 2024 will be special for more than one reason. Besides Dhoni and Pant, Mumbai Indians' Rohit Sharma will also seen in a different role in the upcoming IPL season. Rohit, who has five IPL titles in his cabinet, won't be seen leading MI this time around as Hardik Pandya has been given the responsibility to captain Paltans.

Known for tonking mammoth sixes effortlessly, Rohit has also achieved a massive feat with the ball in IPL. Hitman, who has been a part of IPL since its inception in 2008, has also taken a hat-trick. Interestingly, this hat-trick was taken against Mumbai, the team he has led to the IPL title five times.

When did Rohit Sharma take the Hat-trick?

Rohit made his IPL debut in 2008. At that time, he was a part of the Hyderabad's Deccan Chargers team. Playing for Deccan Chargers in 2009, Rohit wreaked havoc with the ball against Mumbai Indians. The 32nd match of IPL 2009 was played between Mumbai and Deccan Chargers. Batting first Deccan Chargers posted a total of 144 runs on the board against Mumbai Indians.

Rohit's Hat-trick turned it around for Deccan

After Deccan Chargers set a target of 145 runs, Mumbai Indians found themselves teetering at 97/4. Despite early jolts, JP Duminy held MI's boat and was batting brilliantly at that point. MI had no clue what Rohit is going to do with them. In the 16th over of the innings, Rohit, bowling off-break spin, dismissed Abhishek Nayar (1) on the fifth ball and Harbhajan Singh (0) on the last ball. Continuing his momentum into the 18th over, Rohit completed his hat-trick by getting Duminy (52), who had just scored a fifty, out on the first ball of the over. This pivotal moment shifted the match away from Mumbai's grasp, leading Adam Gilchrist-led Deccan Chargers to a dramatic 19-run win. Rohit ended with remarkable figures of 4 wickets for six runs in a two-over spell. This spell remains one of the most memorable moments in his IPL career. To date, Rohit has taken 15 wickets in 243 IPL matches.
