Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Jake Fraser-McGurk was in agonising pain in the clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium when a delivery from Trent Boult hit him in the box.
The incident took place on the fourth ball of the first over. Fraser-McGurk was wincing in pain when Boult's angled-in delivery from round the stumps hit him the box. The Kiwi pacer did not seem concerned as he picked up the ball with DC batter on his knees and started walking back to his bowling mark.
The game was halted for several minutes as Fraser-McGurk needed some medical attention and time to recover from the painful blow. He was seen crying because of the shooting pain.
However, after the break, the young Australian batter had a fitting reply to Boult. He made room for himself once again by clearing his front leg and played a lofted shot to hit a boundary. In Boult's next over, he smashed the first six of the innings. The ball hit the sightscreen. He followed it up with two more boundaries in the over.
The 22-year-old went berserk in the fourth over bowled by Avesh Khan. He hit four fours and two sixes in the 28-run over and reached his half-century from just 19 balls. Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin got the prized breakthrough for the visitors. He bowled a high full toss but Fraser-McGurk failed to deposit it over the fence. He got caught by Donovan Ferreira. His 20-ball 50 was laced with seven fours and three sixes.
He has been in fine form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He has scored 309 runs from seven games at an average of 44.14 including four half-centuries. His strike rate is an excellent 235.88.
All-time IPL record broken
He also broke the all-time IPL record for most fifties scored in less than 20 balls. He has three such quickfire centuries in his maiden IPL season. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nicholas Pooran, Ishan Kishan, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Travis Head and KL Rahul have two fifties each in less than 20 balls.
