Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) announced New Zealand pacer Matt Henry as David Willey's replacement for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Henry has been roped in for Rs 1.25 crore after Willey pulled out of the tournament citing personal reasons.

Henry made his last IPL appearance in the 2017 edition. He played just two IPL games for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and picked up one wicket. Earlier, he was part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad but did not get a chance.

Henry made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and picked up the wicket of Manish Pandey. He was taken to the cleaners by Mumbai Indians (MI) batters. He conceded 40 runs from just overs and wasn't included in the playing eleven under Glenn Maxwell's leadership for the rest of the season.

Willey is the second English pacer from the LSG squad to pull out of IPL 2024. He was picked for his base price of Rs 2 crore in the IPL mini-auction. Earlier, Mark Wood skipped IPL 2024 as part of his workload management. He was replaced by West Indies' Gabba hero Shamar Joseph who is yet to make his IPL debut.

Overall, Willey is the fifth England player to pull out of IPL 2024. Delhi Capitals' (DC) Harry Brook and KKR's Jason Roy and Gus Atkinson skipped the cash-rich league as well.
