Chennai Super Kings star player Daryl Mitchell was extremely disappointed with the umpire's decision to declare him LBW against Harshal Patel in match 53 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala, on May 5 (Sunday). Mitchell was left furious after the umpire's decision ended his outing for just 30 runs off 19 balls.
Harshal Patel dismisses Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell was promoted to the number three spot. He even joined a 57-run partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad and helped CSK get a good start after losing Ajinkya Rahane in the second over itself. However, his outing was cut short by Harshal Patel in the 9th over.
A length ball from Harshal hit Mitchell on the pad and after a loud appeal, the umpire raised his finger. The batter right away took a DRS as he felt the ball was missing the leg stump. However, on the ball-tracking, the ball was hitting stumps as per the umpire's decision. The Kiwi batter was extremely furious after this and his anger was quite visible on his face.
PBKS restrict CSK on 167/9
Harshal Patel and Rahul Chahar's three-fers along with two wickets from Arshdeep Singh and one from Sam Curran helped Punjab Kings in restricting Chennai Super Kings to 167/9 in 20 overs. CSK lost wickets on regular intervals and could not post a big total because of it.
Ravindra Jadeja was the highest run scorer for CSK with 43 runs off 26 balls. Gaikwad and Mitchell also played some decent knocks and helped their side reach a fighting total.
