All players test negative in Delhi Capitals team camp, match against CSK to go ahead as usual

In some good news for the Delhi Capitals (DC) team, all of their players have tested negative during their isolation and RTPCR testing. This also means that the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will go ahead as planned at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, May 8.

Earlier in the day, one of the Capitals' net bowlers had reportedly tested positive, casting doubts on whether the match would go ahead. Immediately, the players were asked to quarantine in their rooms, following which re-testing of all the players were done. Luckily, none of the players were in any danger and much to the happiness of the fans, all the players tested negative.

How does this affect the match?
According to the BCCI's IPL Covid policies, the match can go ahead if both teams can field 12 players for the game. As of now, none of DC's core players have tested positive in what can be perceived as good news for fans from either team. However, as of now, there is no official communication from the BCCI to the teams about Sunday's match. CSK officials are waiting to hear from BCCI, as are the DC officials.

Earlier in the season, two of the DC foreign players – Tim Seifert and Mitchell Marsh – along with four support staff members had tested positive for the virus. The Capitals are the only team which have had Covid-19 cases in their camp in IPL 2022, which has resulted in a change of schedule and venue.

In the previous incident, the game between DC and Punjab Kings (PBKS) which was earlier scheduled to be played at Pune’s MCA Stadium in Pune, was moved to the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This was done to avoid further transmission of the virus among the players due to undetected cases during a long-distance bus journey in a closed environment.

“The change of venue has been triggered due to (then) five COVID-19 positive cases in the Delhi Capitals contingent,” BCCI said in a statement earlier.
