The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took note of Lucknow Super Giants pacer Avesh Khan's excessive celebration after the team's thrilling win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 10 (Monday). The Indian cricket board reprimanded Avesh after the pacer admitted to breaching IPL's Code of Conduct.
"Lucknow Super Giants’ Avesh Khan has been reprimanded for breaching the Code of Conduct. Avesh admitted to level 1 offence 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding," IPL said in a release.
Unprecedented drama unraveled in Bengaluru on Monday, especially in the final over of the match with LSG needing five runs off it to secure a win. Harshal Patel bowled a near-flawless over where he bagged the wickets of Mark Wood and Jaydev Unadkat. In the end, LSG needed a solitary run on the final ball of the match with just one wicket in hand. Harshal attempted to mankad the non-striker batter Ravi Bishnoi but failed in his attempt. He then got the batter run-out but it did not count.
Eventually, on the final ball of the match, Harshal beat Avesh but still took the run. Karthik didn't collect cleanly and Bishnoi was already halfway down. The fumble allowed Avesh to reach the other end as the duo began fierce celebrations after a hard-fought victory.
Soon after reaching the non-striker's end, Avesh threw his helmet to the ground and embraced his teammates who came running on to the ground from the dugout.
Meanwhile, RCB captain Faf du Plessis was fined Rs 12 lakh by the league for maintaining a slow over-rate.
"The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 15 against the Lucknow Super Giants at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Monday," IPL said.
"As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Faf du Plessis was fined ₹12 lakh," the release added.
