IPL 2022 Auction: CSK buy back Deepak Chahar for record-breaking Rs 14 crore; Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Robin Uthappa return too

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went all out after only one player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction. CSK were mostly quiet in the early stages of the auction. They picked just six players in the auction with main focus on bringing back players from the old team. On the second day of the mega auction, Chennai Super Kings roped in players like, Shivam Dube (Rs 4 crore), Rajvardhan Hangargekar (Rs 1.50 Crore).

India's fast bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar started a bidding war which was eventually won by CSK as they spent a whopping amount of Rs 14 Crore to bring him back to the team. He became the most expensive Indian bowler in the history of IPL auction. The 29-year-old Indian bowler had a base price of Rs 2 crore.

 

Apart from Chahar, CSK brought back Ambati Rayudu (Rs 6.75 crore), West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo (Rs 4.4 crore), Robin Uthappa (Rs 2 crore) and uncapped pacer KM Asif (Rs 20 lakh). Their last pick of the day was Tushar Deshpande at the base price of Rs 20 lakh.

Apart from their iconic skipper, CSK had chosen to retain all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 16 crore) and Moeen Ali (Rs 8 crore), as well as young batting prodigy Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs 6 crore), who has proven to be a reliable option as an opener for their team.

 

Talking about Dhoni's performance throughout the IPL so far, in a total of 220 matches that the 40-year-old has played so far, he has amassed 4746 runs with 23 half centuries at a strike rate of 135.83.

 

On the other hand, the high-profile all-rounder Jadeja has scored 2,386 runs with 127 wickets in his kitty, in 200 IPL matches while the English all-rounder Moeen Ali too had a good record against his name, in which he has amassed 666 runs and 16 wickets in a total of 34 matches he has played thus far. 

 

The player who has shown great consistency with his stellar batting, Ruturaj, also has promising numbers against his name which speaks volume about the young gun. In mere 22 matches, he has scored 839 runs with an impressive average of 46.61 and his highest score remains 101 that came last year.
