IPL 2022 Auction: Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans ready for glorious debut after picking Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Shami & Jason Roy

Appearing in their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, Gujarat Titans roped in some impact players in the mega auction. The Hardik Pandya-led side focused more on bowlers and all-rounders on Day 1 of the mega event. On the second day of the auction, the Gujarat-based franchise roped in Jayant Yadav (Rs 1.7 crore), Vijay Shankar (Rs 1.4 crore), Dominic Drakes (Rs 1.10 crore).

Gujarat Titans spent Rs 10 Crore to rope in New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson at the mega auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, on February 12 (Saturday). Apart from Ferguson, the new franchise signed Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for Rs 6.25 crore and English batter Jason Roy for Rs 2 crore in the initial phase of the auction.

 

Titans went all out for spin all-rounder Rahul Tewatia and acquired his services for Rs 9 crore after a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Titans invested in uncapped players as well as they bought R Sai Kishore and Abhinhav Sadarangani for Rs 3 crore and Rs 2.6 crore respectively. They got another overseas player in Afghanistan's Under-19 spinner Noor Ahmad for Rs 30 lakh.

Players roped in before mega auction

Apart from skipper Hardik, the Gujarat Titans team had added Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill to their squad. Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan was signed for an amount of Rs 15 crore. Indian right-handed batter Shubman Gill was roped in for 7 crore. 

 

All-rounder Pandya has scored 1476 runs in 92 matches in IPL so far. Pandya has picked up 42 wickets in IPL. On the other hand, Afghanistan's prolific spinner Rashid Khan has claimed 93 wickets in 76 matches in IPL till now, while young Indian batsman Shubman Gill has scored 1417 runs in 58 matches.

 

Former Indian pace bowler Ashish Nehra will be seen as the head coach of the Gujarat Titans franchise. On the other hand, former World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten will be the mentor and batting coach of the side and Vikram Solanki was appointed as the Director of Cricket.
