IPL 2022 Points Table: DC achieve best NRR with record win over PBKS to jump two places

Covid-hit Delhi Capitals (DC) did not let off-the-field issues affect them and registered a massive win over hapless Punjab Kings (PBKS) to jump two spots on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 points table. A clinical bowling display to reduce PBKS for 115 followed by a run chase that ended in 63 deliveries, DC boosted their net run rate (NRR). Now, they have the best NRR on the points table at +0.942.

The result of DC vs PBKS clash on April 20 at Brabourne Stadium did not have an effect on the top five teams on the points table. Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans are still leading the standings with five wins from six games. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are breathing down Titans’ neck with 10 points from seven games.

Rajasthan Royals (RR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have eight points but are placed third, fourth and fifth on the basis of NRR. Rishabh Pant-led DC are followed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), PBKS.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) occupy the ninth spot with just one win from six games under the leadership of new skipper Ravindra Jadeja. Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians are at the bottom of the table as they go through their worst season yet with six consecutive defeats in a row.

With MI taking on CSK on April 2021, nothing is expected to change in the top eight. Even a win for Rohit Sharma-led MI won't guarantee them CSK's spot on the table. As MI have the worst NRR on the points table, they will need a massive win to move one spot up the table.

Much is not expected to change till the double-header weekend clashes. On April 22 (Friday), DC take on KKR which can affect the mid-table. The top two teams will remain unmoved till the weekend clashes.
