Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal continues to hold the pole position in the purple cap standings. In-form leg-spinner Chahal did not take a single wicket against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The opponent team’s premier fast bowler, Umesh Yadav moved up a couple of spots to leave Wanindu Hasaranga and speed sensation Umran Malik behind.
There were no other changes in the top 10 highest wicket-takers of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Chahal has 19 wickets from 10 games. On May 2 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Umesh took the wicket of Royals opener Devdutt Padikkal to get to the fourth spot.
Royals’ fast bowler Prasidh Krishna missed entering the top 10 list by a whisker. The tall pacer has 12 wickets from 10 games. Punjab Kings (PBKS) leg-spinner Rahul Chahar has the same number of wickets but he has played one less game.
As Gujarat Titans take on Mayank Agarwal-led PBKS on May 3, few bowlers have a chance to move up the table. Titans' fast-bowling spearhead Mohammed Shami has 14 wickets from nine games and placed seventh in the standings. He can move up considerably with a few wickets under his belt.
Similarly, South African speedster Kagiso Rabada and Rahul can move up the ladder as well. While Rabada has 13 wickets from eight games, Chahar has 12 wickets from nine games. Another bowler has a chance to enter the top 10. However, Lockie Ferguson will have to take three wickets or more against Kings to move up from the 18th spot.
