IPL 2022 retentions: Mumbai Indians retain Rohit, Bumrah, Pollard and Suryakumar; no place for Hardik, Ishan

Dust is yet to settle on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season, but the doors for the 2022 season have already opened. Mumbai Indians (MI) five-time champions will be determined to once again clinch the title in the coming months having retained skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Caribbean all-rounder Kieron Pollard and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. 

 

The auctions for IPL 2022 will bring a string of drama as the excitement reaches its peak as to who will the five-time champions retains. Here is a look at the players who will once again wear the jerseys of the famous ‘Men in Blue’ from Mumbai.

 

Rohit Sharma

The six-time IPL champion is already a legend in the T20 competition and will continue his association with the record champions beyond this season. Making his debut for Mumbai-based franchise in 2011, Rohit will be in his 12th season with the franchise when the season kicks off in April. MI splashed Rs 16 crores from their purchase kitty to retain the ‘Hit Man’.

 

Jasprit Bumrah

As part of the old furniture, Bumrah has been racking some serious numbers for the record champions since 2013. One of the best death overs specialists in world cricket, Bumrah has once again retained the faith of the management to be part of the squad. The yorker-specialist has been retained for Rs 12 crore.

 

Suryakumar Yadav

The dependable no.3 gets retained by Mumbai amidst reports that Ishan Kishan will be considered over him. Suryakumar has been a mainstay in the batting lineup of Mumbai franchise. The innovative batter has been retained for Rs 8 crore.


Kieron Pollard

The longest-serving player in the current team, Pollard has been formidable in establishing Mumbai as a force in recent years. 6 ft 5 in Trinidad-born all-rounder hasn’t just won the IPL on five occasions but was also instrumental in guiding the team to the now-dissolved Champions League (CL) T20 in 2011 and 2013. Only Virat Kohli has spent more time at a single team than Pollard. The veteran all-rounder has been retained for Rs 6 crore.

Hardik Pandya is all set to be on the biding table. He will be joined by high-profile names like Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock, Trent Boult in the mega auction.
