Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is the second most successful team in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) with four trophies in their cabinet. However, CSK had a terrible campaign last year when they ninth among the ten teams in IPL 2022. They failed to replicate the 2021 season when they clinched their fourth title. The imbroglio around captaincy left CSK in lurch in IPL 2022 where they could only notch four matches. But this time around in the sixteenth season of the IPL, the Yellow Army will surely look to turn their fortune. It could also be MS Dhoni's last hurray and the Chennai-based franchise will like to give their talismanic player a perfect send off by winning a trophy.
Yellow Army's strength
CSK's star-studded all-rounders will play a key role in IPL 2022 as their presence adds a lot of depth to the fold. CSK boast of two of the supreme all-rounders in world cricket in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Ben Stokes. Not just them, they also have the likes of Moeen Ali, Dwaine Pretorius, and Mitchell Santner to back these two quality players.
One more thing which will play an instrumental role in their IPL 2023 campaign. The sixteenth season of the glitzy league will finally see games being played across all the home and away venues of each franchise. CSK become a different unit when they play at home. The slow low surfaces of Chennai suit their bowlers a great deal. CSK has a lot of depth in the spin department. Jadeja and Santner are two left-arm spinners who can hold and break open the game at the same time. Mahesh Theekshana has evolved into a wonderful T20 bowler who could bowl during any stage of the game. Moeen Ali can also chip in with his useful off-spin.
CSK will open their campaign against defending champions Gujarat Titans on March 31 which will also be tournament's opener.
