Australia's star all-rounder Cameron Green's robust knock played an instrumental role in Mumbai Indians' (MI) 14-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on Tuesday (April 18). Green's unbeaten yet resolute innings of 64 off 40 steered Mumbai to a daunting total of 192/5. In reply, SRH were bundled out to 178 while chasing and came down crashing to hand the five-time champions a much-needed win.
Meanwhile, MI's legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar is still in awe of Green's match-winning show. Sachin was effusive in his praise for Green and said the star all-rounder didn't let his ego come in the way enroute to his impressive knock and played as per the team's need.
The Paltans broke the bank on Green to avail his services in the IPL 2023 auction last year and roped him in for a massive Rs 17.5 crore. Thus Green became one of the most expensive players in the glitzy league's history.
"I think today [Tuesday] I learned something. And I feel that we have all picked the same message from Green. He can hit the ball as well as anyone in the team. But, the initial phase was a tough phase for him. And he did not let his ego come in the way. Ego is something that will always encourage you to do the wrong things. He did not," Sachin Tendulkar said in a video shared on Mumbai Indians' official social media handles.
Green's magnificent knock was studded with six fours and two big ones which propelled MI to close to 200-run mark. However, he was little slow in his approach initially and was 7 off 11 and 20 off 18 before taking the SRH bowlers to clearners.
"He chose the right path in the interest of our team." Tendulkar continued, "He could have easily tried to play some stupid shot. Had he been dismissed, who knows, we might not have got to 192. So I think a big, big round of applause to him for his effort. The special one."
Not just with the bat, Green dazzled with the bat too as he snared the most prized wicket of SRH skipper Aiden Markram to take his team past victory line.
MI will next face Punjab Kings at the Wankhede stadium on April 22.
