The Indian Premier League's (IPL) grand 15th edition is set to commence in a few week's time with 10 teams going up against each other for over two months. However, ahead of IPL 2022, the franchises are unhappy over lack of access to their players before the action starts.
As per norms, franchises expect players to join the camp two weeks before their first game. However, Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) decision to organise a 10-day camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru has led to unavailability of players’ for preparation ahead of mega event.
The camp includes nearly 25 white-ball players which will lead to a delay of six days. Ideally, franchises would have wanted players to join their respective camps by March 12 but it is unlikely under existing circumstances. In addition, the three-day quarantine will mean that the players will join their respective franchises on March 18.
As per Cricbuzz, the franchises have taken the matter to IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel and CEO Hemang Amin as the delay will lead to "denial of contractual right to have access to the players two weeks prior to the start of the league".
The camp in Bengaluru has been organised for nearly 25 white-ball players in order to pick players for different roles in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 which will take place in Australia. As per report, Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper, Hardik Pandya will also join the camp.
IPL 2022 is set to start on March 26 with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on runners up Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium. The full IPL league stage schedule was announced on March 6. BCCI is yet to announce the venues and dates for IPL 2022 playoffs.
