After a dry run in the first leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Kolkata Knight Riders turned things around in their favour during the ongoing UAE leg where the Eoin Morgan-led team has won 5 matches out of 7. KKR’s astounding victory over Rajasthan Royals by 86 runs has almost sealed their playoff berth.

While the purple brigade is marching ahead for the playoffs, the team has missed their ace all-rounder Andre Russell, who has missed the last few games owing to an injury. Post KKR’s victory, captain Morgan revealed about the star all-rounder’s injury update.

“We are taking it day by day with Russell, so, he’s working incredibly hard.”

Batting coach David Hussey also hinted about Russell’s possible return saying that the West Indian is on his road to recovery and will be back for the knockout stage.

“He had a fitness test yesterday, and I think he’s just maybe a game away. So, I think he’d be pushing hard over the next few days in for the final, which will be a huge boost not only for us but the competition. He’s world-class and he provides lots of entertainment.”

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan played as Andre Russell’s replacement in the last two matches and it has been beneficial for the Riders.

“Shakib coming in and performing the way he has in the last two game has made replacing Andre Russell easier. He has contributed massively,” concluded Morgan.

With Shakib coming in with his impressive performances in Russell’s absence, the KKR team management will have selection headache before the knockout stage.
