For young Indian cricketers, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni has been nothing less than a role model. And now Indian left-arm fast bowler Chetan Sakariya has expressed his desire to play under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
While talking about his future plans and target, Sakariya said that his “dream is to play under MS Dhoni.” Sakariya knows that Dhoni had previously given suggestions to many bowlers and helped them to evolve and in order to take his game “to a different level” he wants to closely study the former Indian captain.
Sakariya's words
“The last auction changed my life. My dream is to play under MS Dhoni. He has helped so many bowlers evolve. And to pick his brain, watch him prepare, can take my game to a different level,” Sakariya was quote while talking to News9.
“Dhoni is any bowler's dream and it will be surreal to play and learn under him. I would love to play under him if I get a chance. But of course, I will give my best in whichever team I go to,” the 23-year-old fast bowler added.
Sakariya made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka, in 2021, in Colombo. In the shortest format of the game, he also played his first match against Sri Lanka, last year.
While talking about his first match, the Bhavnagar-born cricketer said that he “was like a kid” when he “walked into the Indian dressing room” for the first time.
Recalling the debut
"The first time I walked into the Indian dressing room, it was like a kid entering the house of his dreams. I was that kid and was just curiously watching everyone as in how they prepare, their body language and all. I knew that I had to wait for my chance but made sure that I observed and picked up things from senior players. They all were very welcoming," Sakariya explained.
In last season’s Indian Premier League (IPL), Sakariya was a part of Rajasthan Royals franchise and he managed to scalp 14 wickets in the previous edition of IPL.
This year’s IPL mega auctions will take place on February 12 and February 13 and with the inclusion of two new teams (Lucknow and Ahnedabad) the upcoming edition of IPL will have 10 teams vying for the prestigious trophy.
