The run-machine Faf Du Plessis continued his run spree in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, this time to clinch a massive milestone. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Du Plessis shattered Virat Kohli's sensational record in the IPL match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday (May 14). Du Plessis completed his 4000 runs in IPL and in the process he took seven matches less to achieve this elusive feat. While Du Plessis took 121 matches to complete his 4000 IPL runs, Kohli played 128 matches to step on this big milestone.

Fastest to 4000 runs in IPL

105 - KL Rahul - 105 matches
112 - Chris Gayle - 112 matches
114 - David Warner - 114 matches
121 - Faf du Plessis - 121 matches

The 38-year-old went on to score a brilliant 55 off 44 balls riding on three fours and two sixes to bring his sixth half-century in the IPL 2023. So far he has amassed 621 runs in 12 matches with a stunning average of 153.33 and currently holds the Orange Cap.

Former South Africa skipper clicked on yet another milestone as he became just the fourth overseas player in the history of IPL to amass 4000 runs.

Overseas players with 4000-plus runs in the IPL
6265 - David Warner
5162 - AB de Villiers
4965 - Chris Gayle
4008* - Faf du Plessis

Du Plessis is leading RCB since 2022 when Kohli stepped down from the captaincy role. Under Du Plessis' leadership RCB qualified to the IPL 2022's playoffs. Yet again they have a chance to replicated the same glory if they manage to beat RR on Sunday and later win their last match of the league stage.

Talking about the match, riding on Du Plessis' fifty and Glenn Maxwell's 54 off 33, RCB posted a challenging total of 171/5. In reply, RR were bundled out for 59 and suffered a 112-run defeat.

Earlier, Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first.

“The conditions might favor that, looks like a dry wicket. It is very clear from here on for us, that is not a bad thing sometimes. We need to execute better. 3-4 guys are putting their hand up every game, we need a bit more probably to cash in on some good positions. Wins are important, net run rate is not something we can bother about now,” Du Plessis said.
