Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were the busiest franchise at Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 auction as they had plenty of spots to fill with a heavy purse by their side. They stunned many by going after Englishman Harry Brook and making him the most expensive speciallist overseas batter in IPL auction history at Rs 13.25 crore. Also, they went hard after Punjab Kings (PBKS) discard Mayank Agarwal making him the most expensive Indian pick in the auction.

After realeasing Nicholas Pooran, they got South African wicketkeeper-batter for Rs 5.25 crore. They had a few bargain buys as well with Adil Rashid and Akeal Hosein at their respective base prices. They had to spend big for some uncapped talents as well in the form of Jammu & Kashmir batter Vivran Sharma and all-rounder Mayank Dagar.

Earlier, SRH had retained a total of 12 numbers ahead of IPL 2023 auction. They have released their skipper Kane Williamson, wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran, and a few more big names.

They were at their peak when they had the likes of David Warner and Rashid Khan among their ranks. They won the IPL 2016 after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, after sacking Warner, they have not clicked for the last two seasons. After finishing at the bottom of the table in IPL 2021, they finished eighth in IPL 2022 with six wins from 14 games. Under the capable hands of Kiwi skipper , SRH have not lived upto their potential. They have some exciting individual talents, especially speedster Umran Malik who pulled off few spectacular spells but they haven’t been consistent as a team.
