IPL 2025: Riyan Parag scripts history after leading RR to 6-run win over CSK, shatters Shreyas Iyer's 7-year-old record
Riyan Parag created history after guiding Rajasthan Royals to a 6-run win over CSK in their IPL 2025 clash. With this RR registered their first win in the IPL 2025 after losing back-to-back matches.

Under the leadership of Riyan Parag, Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured their first win of the IPL 2025 season after defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 30. The highly anticipated match between the two sides culminated in a tense final over finish, with RR ultimately clinching the win. As the final over started with CSK needing 20 runs for victory, the hopes of their supporters rested on the shoulders of MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni's dismissal on the very first ball of the 20th over was a setback that essentially sealed the win for Rajasthan Royals. Once again, Sandeep Sharma proved to be the decisive factor for RR, successfully preventing Dhoni from delivering a signature game-winning finish for Chennai Super Kings.

Following Rajasthan Royals' victory, Riyan Parag achieved a historic milestone, surpassing a seven-year-old record previously held by Shreyas Iyer.

At the age of 23 years and 140 days, Riyan Parag has now become the youngest captain to lead his team to a victory against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. This achievement breaks the previous record held by Shreyas Iyer, who was 23 years and 163 days old when he captained Delhi Capitals to a win over CSK in the 2018 IPL season. Iyer, now 30 years old, is currently leading the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025.

Riyan Parag was given the captaincy of Rajasthan Royals for the initial three matches of the season as Sanju Samson was still recovering from an injury. While Samson had been cleared to bat, he was not yet permitted to resume wicket-keeping duties. He is currently at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence undergoing further assessment and rehabilitation to regain full fitness.
