Virat Kohli just 67 runs shy of creating history, set to become first player in the world to bag this towering milestone
IPL 2025: RCB's Virat Kohli stands on the verge of scripting history, needing just 67 more runs to become the first player globally to reach a remarkable milestone for a single franchise.

All eyes were hooked on Virat Kohli when IPL 2025 resumed on May 17 after a week-long halt. Rajat Patidar-led RCB were set to host Ajinkya Rahane's KKR but continuous rain saw the match getting called off.

However, RCB will next face SRH on May 23 which will mark Virat Kohli's first appearance on the field since his Test retirement. Kohli, who already holds numerous batting records, is on the verge of achieving another massive milestone. He is just 67 runs short of becoming the first player to score 9000 runs for a single franchise.

Virat Kohli's illustrious career includes 8509 runs in the IPL and an additional 424 runs in the now-defunct Champions League T20. Notably, since his debut in the IPL, he has remained a steadfast member of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and all of his runs in franchise cricket have been exclusively scored for this team.

Virat Kohli embarked on his IPL journey with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the inaugural season of 2008. Remarkably, he holds the unique distinction of being the only player in the entire history of the IPL to have represented a single franchise in every season of the league since its inception.

Virat Kohli made his debut in the Champions League T20 in 2009 and played his final match in the tournament in 2011. In the 2011 edition, the Mumbai Indians emerged victorious, defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final.

While Virat Kohli holds the record of being the highest run-scorer in the IPL, his performance in the Champions League T20 doesn't place him in the top echelon of run-getters. Suresh Raina leads the charts in that tournament with an impressive 973 runs. Following him is Kieron Pollard, who accumulated 649 runs while representing both the Mumbai Indians and Trinidad and Tobago in the competition.
