The Mumbai Cricket Association might honor Rohit Sharma with a stand at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, similar to what the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) did for Virat Kohli in 2019. The MCA is in a bind, too, as the India captain's name would be compared to other Mumbai icons for naming stands and walking bridges surrounding the Wankhede stadium. Eight demands and proposals have been submitted to MCA by its club members, according to a report from the Indian Express.

Former presidents Sharad Pawar and Vilasrao Deshmukh are among the names, as are former India captain Ajit Wadekar, the late Eknath Solkar, the late Dilip Sardesai, the late Padmakar Shivalkar, Diana Edulji, the former India women's captain, and Rohit.

"There have been suggestions from members and the final decision will be taken by the general body members of the Mumbai Cricket Association," MCA president Ajinkya Naik told the national daily.

According to reports, the decision will be made when Rohit's name is brought up in the MCA's Apex Council meeting on April 15. The 37-year-old guided India to consecutive ICC championship victories in the past ten months, including the Champions Trophy victory in Dubai last month and the T20 World Cup victory in Barbados in June 2024. This achievement has never been surpassed by any other Mumbai player. In addition, he guided India to the 2023 ODI World Cup final, meaning that they have now only lost one of their previous 24 white-ball matches in an ICC competition.

According to the source, the MCA only possesses one unnamed Grand Stand inside Wankhede Stadium, and that is located over the president's box. The East Stand is named after the renowned Sunil Gavaskar, the West Stand after Vijay Merchant, and the North Stand after Dilip Vengsarkar and Sachin Tendulkar. However, MCA is in a challenging position with few options left to fulfill after receiving up to eight requests. Rohit, on the other hand, is now playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 season.
