Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during the match 45 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This was the second offence by the team in the ongoing 18th edition of the tournament.
Under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
Coming back to the match, Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton's individual half-centuries, followed by a four-wicket haul by Jasprit Bumrah, helped the five-time champions defeat LSG by 54 runs. It was MI's fifth consecutive win in the 18th edition of the cash-rich league. MI who had a forgettable start in the tournament, has made a comeback; they are currently second in the points table.
On the other hand, Rishabh Pant-led LSG are currently sixth in the points table with five wins in ten outings of the marquee event.
Chasing a target of 216, LSG began their innings with Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. In the third over, MI's veteran bowler, Bumrah, dismissed Markram for just 9, surpassing the record of MI's bowling coach, Lasith Malinga (170 wickets) to become the highest wicket-taker for MI with 174 wickets.
LSG will now face Punjab Kings for their upcoming clash of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place on May 4 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala. On the other hand, MI will face the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
