Rajat Patidar named new RCB captain

CSK make a post about their captains.

It sparks speculations across social media.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) officially announced Rajat Patidar as their IPL 2025 captain, on February 13 (Thursday). It was confirmed that Rajat would take over RCB's leadership, and he will make his IPL captaincy debut the following month. Since RCB did not purchase a proven captain in the mega-auction, Virat Kohli appeared to be the favourite to lead the team once more. The franchise, however, had other ideas. Rajat is the eighth captain of the RCB. Wishes for Rajat and RCB, who will try to end their title drought, were all over social media. After Rajat was named captain, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a post on X that caused some controversy and appeared to be a jab at the team.

CSK's post sparks controversy

A photo of the captains who have guided them thus far was posted by CSK. Ruturaj Gaikwad was named captain prior to the 2024 Indian Premier League, however, CSK's full-time captains were MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja. Raina served as a stand-in leader of the Yellow Army.

Although CSK and RCB have long been fierce rivals on the field, since the 2024 Indian Premier League, the level of emotion in the game has increased. To advance to the second round of the IPL 2024, RCB defeated CSK in their final league stage encounter. Despite being the reigning champions going into the season, CSK was unable to make it to the playoffs. RCB later got eliminated after losing the eliminator.

DC and KKR yet to announce captains

The captains of the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have not yet been announced. Prior to the mega-auction, KKR let go of Shreyas Iyer and DC released Rishabh Pant. Iyer will begin a new chapter with the Punjab Kings, while Rishabh will lead the Lucknow Super Giants. One of the leading candidates to lead DC's charge is KL Rahul. Venkatesh Iyer or Ajinkya Rahane could be chosen to be the captain of KKR, who will be the defending champions of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League.
