The IPL 2025 Auction snub was a 'jolt' for Prithvi Shaw, who is misunderstood in many ways, according to Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal. Shaw, who was purchased for 1.2 crores, has been a member of the Delhi team since returning as the captain of the U-19 World Cup winning team in 2018. The Mumbai batter was signed by DC for Rs. 7.5 crore ahead of the 2022 auction, but the 25-year-old has not had a terrific past few seasons.
Shaw was finally released by DC prior to the auction, having only amassed 198 runs from 8 games in the 2024 season. Shaw had trouble finding any bids during the Jeddah event and was not even brought back for the expedited auction process. This would be the first season the Mumbai batsman would miss since the beginning of 2018 unless he were to be replaced.
Parth Jindal on Shaw
Jindal in an exclusive conversation with Sports Today said that although Shaw is a wonderful kid, he needed a wake-up call. Shaw needs to put in a lot of effort, rediscover his passion for the game, and develop discipline. Jindal concluded by expressing his optimism that the Mumbai batter would be able to get back to his peak.
"Prithvi is a great kid. He is misunderstood in many ways. And I think all of us growing up need a jolt and need to be shaken up from our slumber. There are times when I even needed that jolt. All your life you grow up hearing that you are the special one, you're the most talented, you're the only other batter in the world other than Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to have a MRF bat. That tells you a lot about what everyone thought about him," said Parth Jindal.
"People calling you Lara, somebody calling you Sachin, someone else calling you the next big thing. You grow up in that environment, and everyone from Mumbai cricket talking big about you. I think this is that one jolt Prithvi needed. Till now, he was on a fat IPL contract, he was playing for Mumbai across all formats, and was someone starting for DC atleast. I think he needs to work hard. He needs to get back to loving the game of cricket. He needs to get back to the nets, get his fitness. He needs to get back and understand where he went wrong and get disciplined," he added.
"Talent is there for everyone to see. I love the boy and I hope he gets back to the basics and hopes he comes back and be the Prithvi Shaw we all know he can be," Jindal concluded.
Shaw has amassed 1892 runs with a strike-rate of 147.47 and an average of 23.95 in his 79 games resume. During this time, he also achieved 14 fifties.
