Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) shared a cryptic social media post that sparked speculations among the fans about the future of the Gujarat-based franchise in the upcoming season of the cash-rich league. The last season of GT was forgetful as the IPL 2022 winner and 2023 runners-up failed to qualify for the semifinal in the last edition of the tournament.
GT's downfall started when skipper Hardik Pandya rejoined Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of IPL 2024, and the franchise appointed Shubman Gill as the new captain. Now, the franchise shared a picture featuring Rashid Khan and captioned it a clean slate and a new story. After GT's social media post, fans started speculating about a captaincy change in IPL 2025.
GT retained Rashid Khan for a whopping Rs 18 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction he is one of the key players for the team and on the other hand, GT spent 16.50 crore INR to keep Shubman Gill for the upcoming season of the tournament.
Considering GT's performances in the last edition of the tournament there are chances that they will change the captain ahead of IPL 2025. If GT wants to change their captain then Afghanistan veteran Rashid Khan can be a good choice for a leadership role considering his experience in T20 leagues. He is a seasoned campaigner and has been an excellent performer for the Titans since joining them in IPL 2022.
On the other hand, Gill is currently in Australia with the Rohit Sharma-led side for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Australia is currently leading 2-1 in the five Test match series and both teams are currently in Sydney for the final Test of the five Test match series. Gill who missed his spot in the XI for the Boxing Day Test will most likely feature in the fifth Test scheduled to start from January 3 to 7 at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.
